Household waste constitutes a substantial portion of the country's total waste generation, highlighting the urgent need for effective policies to promote waste separation at the household level. 


The waste issue is a national problem that requires comprehensive, innovative, intelligent, fast, and sustainable solutions. Many efforts have been made to address the existing waste issue, but current waste management practices are still far from environmentally conscious, efficient, integrated, and sustainable waste management. Identifying potential improvements and innovations in current waste management can help optimize waste management in Indonesia. 


Information communication technology by optimizing digitalization of waste supply chain can help identify potential improvements and make informed decisions in waste management. Integrated waste management involving the use of digitalization, Internet of Things (IoT) and ICT for collecting and analyzing waste data is very important to identify inefficiencies of waste management.

About Author


About Author


Yun Arifatul Fatimah is an Associate Professor of Sustainable Manufacturing at the University of Muhammadiyah Magelang. After completing her undergraduate degrees in Industrial Engineering at the University of Muhammadiyah Magelang and the University of Indonesia, respectively, she enrolled in a PhD program in Mechanical Engineering at Curtin University. 


Based on her academic background, her research focuses on sustainable manufacturing, remanufacturing, circular economy, waste management, and sustainability education. She leads international and national research grants, building and promoting an interest in sustainability development, technology, and policy-oriented research, working closely with national and international communities, industry, and government. 


Since 2021, she has been the leader of the Center for Sustainable and Intelligence Circular Economy (CSICE), carrying out research on the development and implementation of the ICT-based circular economy in Indonesia.
